West Coast Swing (Funky Swing): a rich and varied dance that can be hip and funky, fast and fun, or slow and sensual: extremely practical, because it can be danced to almost anything - top-40, hip-hop, pop, R&B, jazz, or more traditional blues and swing music. Popular throughout the US and Canada, it's very Vancouver – we have a number of the world's best WCS dancers right here.
Funky Swing Beginners: The smooth and slinky fundamentals of funky swing: the laid-back posture, the springy connection with your partner, how to lead with confidence, how to follow with grace. Covers push break, right-side pass, left-side pass, tuck-turn, sugar tuck, arm loop pushbreak, a basic whip, syncopations, slingshot, and a simple inside spin with pivot-turn footwork.
Funky Swing 2: The dramatic side of funky swing: sharper turns, more spins, tighter coordination with your partner. Covers all the standard whips: basic, inside, and outside whips, with and without spins, locked whip and tummy whip, plus syncopations, posting, plus responding to the music: playing, syncopating, hitting breaks, hanging out.
Funky Swing 3: Learn how to tear up the floor: showy moves, sexy styling, cool spins, unexpected combinations, and clever musical interpretation. The exact patterns taught change with every session, but the emphasis is on advanced but leadable moves.
Funky Swing Invitational (Material varies; enquire.)
Swing Style for Men & Women: this class requires that you know all your basics and are comfortable leading or following swing at an intermediate level. Pamela Podmoroff (and sometimes Graeme) will work exclusively on style, things that you can do to develop your personal dancing, so that you'll look good, no matter what level of partner you're dancing with.
Salsa: fast, sexy, Latin club dancing, with easy-to-learn basics, and loads of flashy complex moves for the advanced student: particularly useful because there are many local salsa dances and clubs.
Salsa Beginners: The fast and sexy fundamentals: the hip movement, natural turnout of the feet, connection with your partner, the basic rhythm of the dance. Covers two basic steps, both the foreward-back and cumbia basics, in open and closed positions, new yorkers, angled basic, reverse basic cumbia, underarm turn, open break , forearm spin, cross-body lead, chase spot turns for both leaders and followers, waistwrap and mini dip.
Salsa 2: More stylish and interesting patterns, including closed inside and outside spins, hammerlock positions, back spot-turns, and some 'fancy' moves – alternating underarms and windmills.
Salsa 3: Much more demanding moves for experienced salsa dancers, including fast multiple spins, complex hand-changes, and more elaborate sequences. The exact patterns taught change with every session, but 85% will be leadable.
Salsa Style & Spinning Technique for Women (Follows) only: (course fee includes entrance to mixer dance afterward at 9:00 PM.) This class requires that you know all your salsa basics. The incredibly stylish Salsera, Angela Amici, will work exclusively on style (arms, posture, body) for women so that you'll always look feminine and stylish, no matter what level of partner you're dancing with. Angela will also help you develop techniques to improve the control and look of your spins. Afterward, dance for free and practice what you've just learned at our Wednesdays mixers.
Hip Hop: a funky street dance that's all about "attitude": it includes beats and moves from the old skool (popping & freezing) - and the new age grooves and smoothness of today's most popular artists like Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliot & Chris Brown. This dance will have you sweating while having fun – bring your runners and some attitude! Faster-paced than our basic freestyle club dancing course, but still suited to beginners. New choreography every series so you can take it several time and still be always learning new material.
Hip Hop Beginners: Each session develops one or more long series of moves designed to contrast cool with showy, flowing with snappy, and all delivered with confidence and attitude. The material taught changes with every session, and always includes easy moves for beginners and trickier moves for more experienced dancers. Students normally repeat the course for several sessions to acquire a vocabulary of moves they can adapt and re-use in sequences of their own. New choreography every series so you can take it several time and still be always learning new material.
In most ballroom dance series you are introduced to the many dances that comprise 'ballroom' over 8 classes. That's too much for beginners. Most students never get comfy with even one of those dances and can't even remember the basic step of most of the dances when they've finished. We are going to only concentrate on the most practical dances - waltz and foxtrot.
Belly Dancing: an ancient middle-eastern style of seductive dance for women of all body types: a perfect way to have fun, get some excellent exercise, and embrace and enjoy your natural curves. All you need to bring is a scarf to wrap your hips, and your desire to try something new!
Bellydance: Each session covers bellydance basics: stance, balance, fluid arm movements, hip movements, footwork, and using the drama of the music. To aid memory and learning, students work through a choreographed routine, different in every session. Students normally repeat the course many times to develop their skills and increase their array of moves.
Freestyle dancing to popular music in a nightclub. We will help you learn how to club dance in a fun and forgiving atmosphere with a minimum of embarrassment. People with two left feet are welcome.
Freestyle Beginners: Every session covers basics of moving to the music, finding your groove, varying your moves to suit the music, and a variety of easy, good-looking patterns to adapt and personalize.
Pussycat Doll Dancing: This is a non-partner dance for women only. This sensual style of hip hop style for ladies infuses hip hop, jazz and Latin movement. A non-partner dance! Jillian's Funk class is a cross between Hip Hop, Jazz and Club dancing. Funk is a non-partner dance (it is not related to our Funky Swing aka West Coast Swing classes, which are partner dancing). This energetic workout will burn calories while still focusing on having fun and dancing for the pure joy of it.
Romantic Dancing: Unlike all of our other classes, this class requires a partner. Getting married? Dancing at someone else¹s wedding? Or do you just want to learn how to snuggledance with your sweetie? This beginner-friendly class helps you learn the principles of partner dancing and teaches you 3 useful romantic dances: foxtrot, waltz, and nightclub 2-step. No experience required. This class is taught by Pamela Podmoroff.
East Coast Swing (aka Jive) is the style most people think of when they hear the word, "Swing". East Coast Swing was popularized in the 50's when it was originally danced to big band, rockabilly and rock' n roll music. It's interest was resurrected in the 90's with the returning interest in 'retro' music and fashion. East Coast Swing remains among the easiest dances to learn
Reggaeton is a Latino style of Hip Hop that is becoming very popular. You can see it online everywhere. It's very sensual, exuberant and uses a lot of hip and chest motion. It's great to develop your nightclub dancing skills. This is an upbeat and energetic class that will give you a good work out while you have fun with Angela Amici.
Bachata is a sensual dance latin that's become mandatory in salsa clubs. No partner required. Although we start with the basics in the first class, this class is taught at an accelerated pace and is suitable for students that have previous dance experience.

A popular, easy dance that is very common in salsa clubs.
Although we start with the basics, this class is taught at an accelerated pace and is more suitable for students that have previous dance experience. As this is an accessory dance, students should learn the more practical salsa first.

Cha Cha: The version we teach is Nightclub Style Cha Cha - a much more relaxed, natural looking style, done obviously, in nightclubs or at swing or salsa venues.
This class requires previous dance experience as it will move quicker than our normal beginners classes.
Cha Cha: This partner dance is a great addition for salsa or swing dancers. It's very similar to salsa but it is danced to slower, more sensual music. This class require previous cha cha experience.
Argentine Tango is a highly dramatic and sexy partner dance. Definitely different from the ballroom versions of tango, Argentine Tango is the original form. Most dancers use Argentine Tango as an accessory dance to complement their other dances BUT for a few Tangueros, this is the main course, even their obsession, and they meet at 'Milongas' - dance salons - and they tango all night long. While the committed beginner can succeed at this dance it is a more difficult dance than many, and we suggest starting with a foundation dance like swing or salsa first.
Club-style Hip Hop: Not interested in the average Hip Hop class with choreographed moves? Looking for something that you can actually use at a Club, that’s Hip hop flavoured, but spontaneous? You’ve found it. Angela Amici will teach you her basic club-style Hip Hop dancing that is easy to learn and comfortable to use on any dance floor. You will get a chance to dance to all genres of hip hop; Old Sckool, R&B, poppin', reggea & disco. Get ready for lots of energy in this class, we barely stop the music!!
Nightclub Two Step: This romantic dance is easy and lots of fun. Commonly done by dancers when the music gets slow and romantic, it is perfect for nightclubs, wedding dances, etc. We call it Ballroom Rice-a-Roni because it gives you the look and feel of dancing ballroom without the hard work. This is an accessory dance, so learn swing or salsa first, then you will find this an easy dance to pick up. The timing is exactly the same as salsa – but slower – so you will be able to apply some of your salsa patterns.
Country 2-Step: Your ex got the pickup and your dog. This simple and fun dance will help you forget your troubles.
